The plans for the new 23,800 square foot Manchester Police Facility were on the street in 2004 when the City put a hold on the project.
A developer approached the City with the idea of developing a major mixed use commercial project. Their plan was to utilize the City property supporting
the construction of the police building. In exchange for the property, the development company would provide a parcel of land within the development for
the new police building. Manchester is known as a traditional City. Their prominent architecture conveys traditional neo-classical style. It was mandatory that the imagery of the new police building reflect this style. WEPA opted to employ the use of a relatively simple, straight-forward structure in exchange for the cost associated with some of the ornamental elements attached to the primary structure. But for all of the use of an traditional architectural language, the facility has all of the functionality and systems of a state-of-the-art, modern law enforcement facility. This project includes a multi-purpose space that serves for police in-service training, municipal court, board of aldermen meetings and planning & zonning commission meetings. |
