PITTSBURG, KANSAS

This project was completed in association with WSKF Architects of North Kansas City, Missouri.

This facility houses both the police department and municipal court and was designed to blend in with the historic character of downtown Pittsburg, Kansas. All police operations including patrol, administration, investigations and communications are included. Evidence processing and storage are also addressed, including a crime lab for routine evidence analysis. Emergency operations center functionality can also be easily accommodated. The court room can also be reconfigured for City Commission meetings and community functions.

The court room and communications suite are constructed as hardened portions of the building for severe weather resistance. A fully-featured integrated security and surveillance system was included as part of a sophisticated technology infrastructure in the facility to facilitate efficient delivery of law enforcement services to the citizens of Pittsburg. Short term holding facilities were included to address processing both adult and juvenile offenders.

This facility was dedicated as the Beard-Sparks Law Enforcement Center in honor of two previous Chiefs of Police who dedicated many years of service to the City of Pittsburg.
